Ditch the clutter for a spa-grade refresh!
It’s Spring! You fling open the windows and welcome the fresh air in – and then you look at your bathroom.
Groaning under the weight of too many beauty products, weird mystery muck in the bathtub, hair and debris in the sink and a general unattractive vibe.
Who wants to get cleaned up in a room like that?
So let’s talk about how to declutter, re-organize and refresh your bathroom!
How to Spring Clean a Bathroom: Step-by-Step
The "Toss-It" Tour

Before cleaning, you must clear out the physical space so you can reach every corner. Get a garbage bag ready for the rejects.
Empty Everything: Remove all items from countertops, medicine cabinets, drawers, and under-sink storage. Group like with like, on the floor or in bins.
Check expiration dates: on medications, sunscreens, and makeup. Dispose of anything expired or unused.

Key Expiration Guidelines:
· Mascara & Liquid Eyeliner: 3–6 months.
· Liquid Foundation/Concealer: 6–12 months.
· Lipstick & Gloss: 12–18 months.
· Powder Products (Blush, Eyeshadow): 1–2 years.
· Creams & Skincare: 6–12 months.
Linens: Take down shower curtains, liners, bath mats, and towels to wash while you clean. Go to your local dollar store and buy a fresh, clean shower liner. And if you have a curtain that’s more than five years old, go on Amazon and get a new one that is more your current style. Same for bath mats (try the new stone mats) and towels!

Get your gloves on for - Bubbles & Bliss: The Great Scrub-Down
Always clean from the highest point down so dust doesn't fall on already-cleaned areas. Get yourself a pair of glam cleaning gloves to make a not-so-pleasant task fun!
Vents and Lighting: Dust and wash exhaust fan covers and light fixtures, where dust bunnies frequently collect.
Walls and Ceilings: Wipe down walls with a mild vinegar or soap solution to remove moisture-related grime.
Mirror and Glass: Use a strong glass cleaner or a 1:1 vinegar-water mix for mirrors and shower doors. Paper with newsprint leaves a nice, streak-free shine!

Counters: Now that they’re empty you can really get in there and scrub them clean. Polish faucets and handles to remove water spots.
Cabinets: Vacuum the inside of empty drawers and cabinets to remove hair and debris, and then wipe them down.
Sanitize High-Traffic Areas

The Toilet: Sprinkle Comet or Ajax cleaner into the bowl -swish it around and let it sit. Then spray the rest of the toilet with a heavy duty cleaner (I like Scrubbing Bubbles).
Get out a (new) toothbrush and clean microfiber cloth and scrub the exterior.
Deep clean the exterior base, the tank, and the hinges where bacteria hide. Wipe down with a clean cloth, or even toilet paper that you can toss in when done. Then go back to the bowl and scrub it till it shines!
Bathtub/Shower: Clean out hair and gunk from the drain by using a drain snake followed by a baking soda and vinegar flush. Spray the shower and bathtub walls with tile cleaner, then wipe down with a cloth.
Descale showerheads by soaking them in a bag of vinegar overnight to remove mineral buildup.
Grout and Tile: Use a baking soda paste or a dedicated grout cleaner to scrub lines back to their original color .

Baseboard Detail: Wipe down baseboards with a soapy rag to remove humidity-trapped dust.
Finally floors: Sweep or vacuum thoroughly (including behind the toilet) before mopping with a disinfectant.
Your Organizational "Power Moves"
First – figure out what absolutely must go on top of the counters, which is prime real estate. And – what you’re comfortable looking in a drawer for. Things you use everyday may warrant counter space – like toothbrush, toothpaste, special face soap, contact lense cleaners, deodorant, facial moisturizer, basic make-up, daily meds, etc.

Counters: Use bins or baskets to group items logically as you put them back. Aim to have at least 50% of the counter surface clear. Utilize vertical space by using bins with drawers, preferably clear acrylic.
If you have too many Absolutely Necessary Daily Items, consider putting up some shelves on the side wall to handle the overflow.
Cabinets and Drawers: Every bathroom is different in what it offers for storage. You’ve already grouped your toiletries into like with like, so figure out how much room you need for each category and where they’re going to live.
The most often used things go in the top drawers. Use drawer dividers and small bins to hold everything – remember to make things easy to pull out and easy to put back.

Get a plastic bin to put all your daily cleaning items and a couple of brushes, sponges and cloths, and keep under the sink. There are undersink organizers that can optimize the space and work around the plumbing.
You can add additional storage space with back-of-door hangers, particularly good for larger items like hair dryers and curling irons.

Shower and Bath: Resist the urge to put EVERYTHING back!
How many hair products do you – honestly - use in a week? Those earn a place on a shower organizer or shelf. The rest go into a closet or under the sink for those special spa treatments you do once or twice a year. The less clutter you have in the bathtub/shower area, the less stressful your morning will be.
Something Extra!

If you’re in the mood to splurge, consider getting a super soft Ritz-Carlton Diamond Waffle robe to encircle your post-bath self with luxury! Or a bamboo bathtub caddy to hold your glass of wine, scented candle and the latest novel.
Use aromatherapy to create whatever mood you wish – try eucalyptus hanging from the shower head for a fresh, relaxing scent.
Create a soothing ambiance with a waterproof Bluetooth shower speaker. If you have a candle with a scent that relaxes you, find a spot for it and use it – this really creates that spa feel.

Final Touches
Go get your freshly cleaned (or new fluffy) towels, put up your breezy shower curtains, lay down the rugs, and refill hand soap dispensers.
Now look what a gift you’ve given yourself (and your family, or significant other!).
A sparkling clean, super-efficient, comfortable and calming spa-tacular bathroom retreat.
